Chess
Chess is regarded both as a sport and a game, which requires endurance and logical thinking skills. The aim of the chess programme is to provide students with the opportunity to develop;
• The understanding of the mechanics of the game of chess
• The importance of forward planning
• The compilation and implementation of different strategies
• The development of logical and progressively in depth thinking
• The importance of peer learning/support
• The understanding of the dynamics and importance of team unity
• The acceptance of diversity amongst students
Chess Club runs every Friday at lunchtime. Currently we have about 48 students in the chess club from years 6 - 12. These students come along to either learn how to play or to challenge other in chess matches.
CHESS RESULTS
On the 19th May eighteen of our students competed in a Moreland Interschool chess tournament. It was pleasing to see our junior and senior team both coming in third place. Well done to Waheed Khan and Yasser Sarwar who received distinction certificates on the day. These boys were in the top 10% of players in the region. Also congratulations to Ihsan Surati, Mohamed Jalani and Ahmet Souki who received credit certificates. These boys were in the top 25% of players in the region.
On 7th May Australian International Academy hosted the North Western Chess championships. It was pleasing to see out senior team coming runner up and our junior team coming in 6th position.
