Islamic Environment
Though AIA is an “Academic” rather than a “Religious” school, the Academy’s Islamic nature pervades every aspect of the Academy. This Islamic Environment is infused by an Islamic Ethos that forms the basis of all academic, spiritual, cultural, social and physical programs. A mix of Muslim and non-Muslim teachers ensures that students learn the values of acceptance and understanding, but well qualified Muslim teachers teach Islamic Studies and Qu’ran. All Muslim staff form an Islamic Forum which oversees the maintenance of the Islamic Environment.
Zuhr and Jum’aa prayers are performed in congregation in the Mosques on the Secondary and primary Campuses. The study timetasble is altered during the fasting month of Ramadan to enable students and staff to fast while still performing at a high level. Eid Festivals are recognized and celebrated and halal food is provided from the multicultural canteens on each Campus, for camps and for the many social events which pepper the Academy calender.
Dress Code
One way in which the Academy preserves the Islamic Environment is through the dress code. The Academy has uniforms which reinforce Islamic values of modesty in dress. Girls wear a scarf and long dresses and long sleeves. Boys wear long pants even at primary School. Sports uniforms consist of tracksuits which enable girls to take part in all sporting activities. Female staff reinforce this policy by also covering their hair.
